Right after passage of the huge tax overhaul bill, Congress under Senator Orrin Hatch, introduced a tax extenders bill on December 21, called the Tax Extender Act of 2017, which would ‘renew’ a number of renewable energy credits and incentives, as well as extend the Section 45L Energy Efficient Home Tax Credit available for owners of homes and apartment buildings implementing energy efficient components. The credit is $2,000 per unit or home and has been available up through its expiration as of 12/31/16. This bill would retroactively extend the 45L Energy Tax Credit for years 2017 and 2018. Currently, the bill is with the Senate Finance Committee for consideration.
